Interview with multi awarded writer Wayne D. Burdette Jr
Can you tell us about your writing style ? Is there a specific genre you lean on ?
My writing style is a little complex as 50 to 60 percent of the stories that I write are true so of course I tend to lean on all genre except horror. My passion is for the Christmas Romantic Comedies, Christian or Faith Based Films and the Action Thriller films. I have though started and finished writing a couple of horror movies as I know the viewers love a good horror film.
CONVERSATION ABOUT: Heart Stopper
Is there currently an ongoing filming or printing production of one of your scripts ?
Yes, we are in the pre-production phase for Heart Stopper and have set filming towards October of this year. I have two other scrips that I am actually turning into novels and letting a great friend who is a Best-Selling Author review them and see what she thinks. So, time will tell.
How do you prepare to write ? Do you have any researching traditions or habits ?
When I come up with a story in my head or a concept for a screenplay the first thing I do is go to IMDb and see if it has been done before. If I see the same title, then I will watch the movie and if there are any similarities to what I am considering to write, I will go back to my thoughts and change the story as I always want my work to be that of my own. For example, I had a Romantic Comedy I was in the middle of writing about Tuscany and the same idea cam on Hallmark so I started over to come up with something fresh and new.
Following the mysterious life of Jake Bishop as he stumbles upon new adventures. What does the audience need to know about this character before going into the story ?
Jake is a complex character that has a lot of ups and downs in life and the story develops into how he deals with those past trials while trying to be the best for those that are counting on him. The question though remains of whether or not Jake wants to change and can he change to where he doesn't continue to live in the past and with past regrets.
In this Action Thriller are there any lurking romantic elements ?
There are some lurking romantic elements and some that will even surprise the viewer. I want the audience to be asking the question of where di that come from or I did not see that coming as I believe that it brings a greater element to the script and film. A great script or film to me is one where the viewer doesn't know the ending in the first 15 minutes of the film.
Is there a specific message you want to send to the audience with your work ?
I want the audience to be able to see the passion and dedication that goes into the scripts and films and when the finish watching the film know that the production team put all of their heart and soul into making an exceptional film. This is the reason I want to learn about directing so that when I write a feature film, I can then direct my exact vision into the film just like some of the great directors out here today.
What is the target audience of your writings ?
My target audience for most of my films is the younger generation, which I know is going to be a tough market as they demand fresh ideas. The reason is I want them to see the struggles that life might bring especially with bad decisions, but also that nothing cannot be overcome when you have the backing and love of your family and friends. However, I want the target audience to enjoy the movie and love the characters as well as the story.
Any future projects incoming ? Along with personal aspirations.
The first project that I want to complete is of course the production of Heart Stopper to be completed on schedule but then there is a franchise behind that of Faith based movies, Christmas movies, Romantic Comedies, Action/Thrillers, Horror and something I have recently grown to enjoy writing Sci/Fi. My aspirations are to leave in the entertainment industry, a legacy for my children to see and know through my films how much I loved each of them and my family as well but also for that one special person to know just how much I loved her.
