Review for ‘‘Doors’’ by Carter Stoudt

''Doors'' by Carter Stoudt is a short DIY thriller that leaves a lot to be desired. First of all we would like to appreciate that for beginning attempts at filmmaking there is a good understanding of the medium. This is a deeply atmospheric short, with some clever editing and a great jazz music score. We were left hanging from the writing department as young director Stoudt did not provide a lot of background to work with and we would encourage him to take his time and provide more storytelling in his next project.

A student finds himself in a precarious situation. One door can lead out. One can lead to unimaginable consequences. This short description works on its own but to take it on the next level there must be a much needed sauce. Maybe our main characters are trying to avoid a phobia or a mental health problem ? This is never defined unfortunately.

The acting is decent, without taking any risks and the cinematography does a decent job considering this feels to be shot on an iphone and the creative use of lighting works in favor of the film. We would like to congratulate the small but talented crew of this film and despite the technical issues this production may had, we cannot wait to see a lengthier project where Carter Stoudt will give the audience more time to process the sequences. Watching this film it is obvious that the young director is ready to launch a story and plot driven film.
