Review for ‘‘The Betrayal’’ by Abraham Lopez

''The Betrayal'' is the deeply emotional short by Abraham Lopez. ''Will'' faces difficult times when his long time girlfriend Maggie confesses she has been cheating on him with his best friend and is now pregnant with his baby. Although it may not be the most original script, it is very relatable in some sense.

The main photogenic acting duet provides excellent performances in very demanding theatrical sequences. There are some questionable cuts that make the editing feel
garrulous. The scenario is pretty straightforward with a few expositional errors as things are told when they are already clear to the audience. Making some dialogues drag longer than needed creates a spiral of pacing distortion. The sound design and mixing is excellent. After the climax, where our characters break down, we are given a transition 3 months later in the future. Although we are way past our events unfortunately our characters look exactly the same, from facial hair to clothes. This is a very important issue that deducts from the viewing experience.

Although the raw material could escalate to a great short film, a few technical misses don't do justice to the clever hand held direction, exquisite acting performances and sentimental score. We would like to encourage director Abraham Lopez to keep his directing style while focusing on the small important details.
