Review for FIRST FLOOR DOOR

THE FIRST FLOOR DOOR is a psychological thriller short located in the beautiful scenery of the French countryside directed by the duo of Giraud Chloé & Fumoux Antoine. This film instantly showers the audience with an eerie unsettling atmosphere. We follow around a young woman that is housekeeping and watching over the house of a mysterious owner. A strange man will find her and question her about the notorious owner to find out the association with him. Although the motives are never really clear, the dialog exchange between the two protagonists is snappy and very realistic. Delivered to perfection with their acting skills.

From a technical aspect the craftsmanship of lighting and cinematography is clearly done well with some questionable directing choices and some unnecessary editing cuts. From a pacing aspect we would suggest a small but very important runtime reduction as it will help for a more powerful structure. The sound design and score selection are perfect as they compliment the given atmosphere. We understand that this is one of the first steps of the directing duo and we want to congratulate them for their beautiful work.

This constructive criticism helps them evolve their already very optimistic work of art as we expect to see more from them in the future.
